As we welcome and commence our stock market journey in 2025, it is time to reflect on the journey in 2024! Which stocks performed well, and which ones did not meet our expectations? We bring to you our Annual Report containing the list of Top 25 Gainers and Losers on the Annual StockBal Index (or Varshik Bal) during the calendar year 2024.
What is Varshik Bal? (Click to read more)
Varshik Bal is the annual variant of StockBal, which is India’s first multi time-frame measure of relative strength of all NSE traded stocks, updated on a daily basis.
It measures the relative strength of each stock relative to the broader market on a scale of 0 – 100, based on performance over the given time frame. So, Varshik Bal measures the past performance relative to the NSE-500 stocks over the last one year. Similarly, Masik and Saptahik Bal measure this over the last one month and one week, respectively.
Where can I find the StockBal? (Click to find out)
You can check out the StockBal across all three time frames on a daily basis on our StockBal Dashboard. It is updated each day for all NSE traded stocks after market hours.
Which stocks are covered? (Click to find out)
The StockBal is updated daily for all stocks traded on NSE (mainboard segment), which typically includes over 2,000 stocks that are traded each day.
However, the StockBal Index itself is computed on the basis of NSE-500 stocks only, as a reference point or surrogate measure of the broader market. This report of Top 25 Gainers and Losers is also drawn only from the basket of stocks that are a part of NSE-500 stocks only.
Varshik Bal – Annual Report
We started publishing the Varshik Bal starting from the time of our launch around Diwali in 2024. However, we have computed the Varshik Bal for the entire year for all the stocks that are a part of NSE-500, so that we can share the Annual Review with you for 2024.
We now present to you a list of Top 25 Gainers and Top 25 Losers on the Varshik Bal during 2024.
The gainers are stocks that exhibited the highest increase in Annual StockBal (Varshik Bal) in 2024. In other words, out of all NSE-500 stocks, these are the ones that saw the highest increase in Varshik Bal between the end of calendar year 2023 and end of 2024.
Please note that this is not a list of the top gainers in 2024 in absolute terms. That honor would belong to the stocks with the highest Varshik Bal in absolute terms, of course. However, this list of Top 25 Gainers include those stocks that have increased the most VarshikBal, as compared to last year.
As you will see from the list of Top 25 Varshik Bal Gainers below, most of these stocks under-performed the broader market last year (2023) and over-performed the market this year (2024). So, without further ado, let us look at the results.
